Privacy policy

The short version

Wayvl is a browser tool. Your audio files, cover images and background images are read by your own browser, held in the memory of that tab, and thrown away when you close it. They are never uploaded, never stored on a server, and no one, including me, can see them.

What Wayvl does with your files

• Audio you drop in is decoded with the Web Audio API inside your browser.
• Frames are drawn on a canvas in your browser and encoded with WebCodecs on your own device.
• The finished MP4 is created as a local blob and handed to your browser's downloader.
• Microphone recordings, if you use that feature, follow exactly the same path and are never transmitted.
• Captions are made by a speech recognition model that runs inside your browser. The first time you ask for captions, the model files are downloaded from Hugging Face (huggingface.co) and the code that runs them from jsDelivr (cdn.jsdelivr.net), then kept in your browser's cache. Those services see an ordinary file request (your IP address and browser details), as any website would. Only those files come down; your audio and the transcript never go up.
• There is no account system, no login, and no upload endpoint anywhere in this site.

What is collected

Wayvl uses Vercel Web Analytics to count page views and a few events, such as an export finishing or a partner link being clicked. It sets no cookies and does not identify you; visits are counted from a hash that changes every day. Nothing about your files is included. The site is served as static files from Vercel, and Vercel's servers keep standard request logs, which can include your IP address and browser user agent, for security and abuse prevention.

Advertising

Wayvl is free and shows no ads at the moment; it is paid for by the affiliate links below. Every page still loads the Google AdSense script while Google reviews the site, and if ads are switched on later they will be served by Google AdSense. Because that script loads, the following applies:

• Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.
• Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and other sites on the internet.
• Google and its partners may collect information such as your IP address, device and browser data, and general location for the purpose of ad delivery, frequency capping, and reporting.
• You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings.
• More detail on how Google uses data from sites that use its services is set out at policies.google.com/technologies/ads.
• You can also opt out of third-party vendor cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info/choices and youronlinechoices.eu.

If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, a consent message from Google appears before personalised ads and their cookies are used, and you can change or withdraw that choice at any time through the same message. That consent tool is provided by Google's Privacy and messaging feature in AdSense.

Affiliate links

The banner under the editor, the card that can appear after an export and the links on the tools page point at tools for podcasters and musicians. Those are affiliate links and are marked as such. If you follow one, that company may set its own cookie so it can tell that you came from Wayvl, and it may pay Wayvl a commission if you sign up. Nothing about your audio or your video is shared with it.

Local storage

If you save a brand kit, Wayvl keeps your chosen look and logo in your browser's own storage so it comes back next time. The speech model for captions is kept in your browser's cache. That data stays on your device and is not sent anywhere; clearing your site data removes it.

Children

Wayvl is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from them.

Your rights

Since Wayvl holds no personal data of its own, there is nothing for me to export or delete on your behalf. For data held by Google as an advertising partner, use the Google links above or contact Google directly.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top of this page changes with it.
