Questions

Is my audio uploaded anywhere?

No. Decoding, rendering and encoding all happen in this tab using WebAudio and WebCodecs. There is no server that receives your files, and there is no account to make.

Can I drop in a video file?

Yes. Drop in an mp4, mov, webm or mkv and Wayvl pulls out the audio track and ignores the picture. For mp4 and mov, including the ones an iPhone records, it reads the audio samples straight out of the file, so even a long phone video opens in a moment. If the container is one the browser will not open directly, Wayvl plays it silently in the background and captures the audio, which takes a few seconds. Either way the file never leaves your device.

How do the captions work?

Open the Captions tab and press Transcribe. A speech recognition model runs inside your browser and times every word to the audio. The first time, the model downloads once (roughly 40 to 80 MB) and your browser keeps it, so the next clip starts straight away. Tap any word to fix it, pick a style, and download the transcript as SRT, VTT or text. Your audio is never uploaded.

What is an audiogram?

An audiogram is a short video built around a piece of audio: a still or simple background, an animated waveform, and usually a title or cover art. Audio alone cannot be posted to most social feeds, so an audiogram is how podcast clips, voice notes and music snippets get shared.

Which browsers can export?

Export needs the WebCodecs VideoEncoder API: Chrome or Edge on desktop, Chrome on Android, and Safari on iPhone, iPad and Mac from iOS 16.4 and macOS 13.3. On iOS before 26 the audio is recorded in real time, so a one minute clip takes about a minute; keep the tab open while it runs. Firefox can still load audio and use the live preview.

How long can the clip be?

Five minutes. Longer clips take a lot of memory to encode in a browser tab, and most feeds cut you off well before that anyway.

What size file should I expect?

Roughly 1 to 1.5 MB per second of video at the default quality. A 30 second square audiogram usually lands between 30 and 45 MB, which every platform accepts.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes. Upload a video straight from your camera roll, design the clip and export the MP4 on the phone, on iPhone and on Android. If your iPhone is on silent the preview still plays sound.

Why is the exported audio sometimes Opus?

Some browsers ship AAC decoding but not AAC encoding. When that happens Wayvl writes Opus audio into the MP4 instead and tells you. It plays everywhere modern, but if a platform rejects it, export again from Chrome or Edge on desktop, or Safari on iOS 26 or later.

Can I use it commercially?

Yes. The files you make are yours. You are responsible for having the rights to the audio and images you put in.
